Rich,
please try "windump -D" (capital D).
I will have a look at the files you sent me in a couple of days.
Have a nice day

Subject: [Winpcap-bugs] Winpcap not working properly with application.
I'm not sure but it seems like winpcap isn't detecting my NIC.
OK, to begin.
I'm running winpcap version 4.0.1
I've read the FAQ but do not seem to find any specific solutions to my problem. I've tried a couple of vague solutions such as running the application in administrator without success.
Windump -d is identifying only my genericdialup adapter. The message reads as follows:
Windump: listening on \Device\NPF_GenericDialupAdapter
<000> ret #96
O/S = Windows XP Professional sp2.
NIC = SMC EZ Card 10/100 PCI (SMC1211 Series)
This is the only network adapter installed. The motherboard has an onboard NIC but that's disabled and does not show up in the device manager either in Normal Windows or Safe Mode Windows.
The only firewall running on the machine is Windows XP Firewall. Disabling and turning off the firewall does not fix the problem. The program worked with the firewall until I replaced the NIC. Once I replaced the NIC from the onboard NIC to an addin card the problem appeared. Trying to revert to the original onboard NIC did not fix the problem.
The FAQ seems to indicate that under WindowsXP winpcap might use the dialupadapter but the application is not working in the areas that use winpcap. I've verified with the support of the application that my problem is unique to my machine. Other's running the same program and same version of Winpcap are not having the problem so, it's not the application. At this point I can only assume that Winpcap is not identifying my NIC and therefore not keeping track of the packets.
Trying to downgrade to version 3.1 doesn't work either.
As far as reproducing the problem, that's all I can do. I can not prevent the problem from occurring in order to trouble shoot what might be causing it.
Attached please find the files requested.
What can I do to get Winpcap to recognize the network adapter and get the application working properly?
