[Winpcap-bugs] device listing issue with 4.1B4

This is a known issue with Vista, and it's related to the new wireless driver architecture in Vista. Simply speaking, on Vista WinPcap doesn't communicate directly with the wireless card driver (like in pre-Vista), but instead there is a filter component in between (from Microsoft) that "mangles" the adapter names and always returns "Microsoft" instead of, let's say, "Intel Wireless card XYZ".
We are well aware of the issue, but at the moment we haven't developed any workaround for it.
The problem because annoying only when you have multiple wireless cards on your machine (like in your case), otherwise you always know that the adapter wrongly named "Microsoft" is actually the wireless adapter...

I hope to work on this issue in the next months, but I don't have a time frame for such fix, yet :-(

Have a nice day
GV

  Hi there

Using winpcap 4.1B4 on Vista Business (SP1), and adapter listings are showing up with what appears to be a registry key, but not the specific adapter name, which would make it easier to pick the correct one I need without having to memorize or look up the id.

Enclosed are all the files requested by bug report page by running windum -D, including a screen shot of windum print out.

Should be noted that I have had this problem ever since I loaded wireshark/winpcap onto vista.

  Thanks
