WinPcap installation errorYou are right.
The installer for WinPcap does require a version of IE installed on the machine to show up one of the initial dialogs of the installer itself.
Have a nice day

Subject: [Winpcap-bugs] WinPcap installation error
Hi,
First, thank for providing the WinPcap software.
I wanted to let you know a problem I encountered installing version 3.1 on an NT4 machine. I used that version because it came with the version of Wireshark which I was using. I also tried 4.0.2 with the same error.
On installing I got an error which crashed the installer.
"The instruction at "0x7076d98e" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read"."
It appears that the problem was that the NT4 machine had Internet Explorer 4 uninstalled to free disk space as it was not thought necessary to the PC's function. Finding that the installer created a temporary .htm file gave the clue that IE might be needed. On installing Internet Explorer 6, the WinPcap installation then worked fine.
I was unable to find a website reference to IE being needed by the installer, so thought it might be worth mentioning.
Thanks,
Rob
