[Winpcap-users] PPP/Dialup capture support in Windows 7:Whateffort needs to be done to make it work?

Netmon might work with WWAN adapters, I never tested them. In general Netmon does work on NDIS adapters (it actually only works on NDIS ones).

Thank you very much Gianluca for your answer!

But oh, I just figured out that WWAN Adapters (= e.g. USB Data Cards for UMTS such as the Sierra Wireless USB306) aren't working either under W7. But as they are treated as NDIS I assume I am not supposed to use NetMon for those, right?

If you just need to capture on your own machine and later analyze the traffic with, let's say, Wireshark, I would probably use Microsoft Netmon and then open the capture with Wireshark.

If you are looking for a more programmatic way, then there a couples of choices
  - write a wrapper on top of the NetMon 3.x APIs and integrate them into WinPcap. Please remember that Netmon does not come by default on Windows Vista/7, so the user would need to install it manually (you cannot redistribute the Microsoft Netmon installer)
  - create an NDIS filter driver to capture such traffic and integrate it into WinPcap.

  Have a nice day

  Dear WinPcap Users

I read the FAQ regarding PPP support within Windows 7. The current answer is: Not supported! Unfortunate there is no more info on that issue.

As I desperately want to capture PPP (aka Dialup / DUN) connections under Windows 7 I would like to know what effort needs to be done in order to make it work.

  Thank you

  John
