[Winpcap-users] Conflict between WinPcap and other WinXP drivers?- hanging on boot

Welcome. I can't really help beyond what I've already said (sorry). But,
if he is really that paranoid, what he should do is:

1) Secure his network using some sort of encryption (Windows has this, more
than likely every router has some form of security [WPA, WEP, etc...]).

2) Use a program like AirSnare to monitor the network. It catches every
MAC address connected to the device(s) you wish to watch. It's a rather
useful program, and great for the paranoid ones.

As for the Symantec/Norton thing, they usually cause problems with other
security tools (I call WinPCap this, since it's mainly used for security in
some way). Do you know what he did before and after installing WinPCap?
Maybe he did something that caused a problem.

One last thing, I don't really know about bad hardware...it is possible, but
there's usually some sort of warning before hand that the hardware is
dying. I think reformating is the best (read: only??) way to solve this
problem though...especially since he's very uneasy about using live CD's.
